Sovay - Andrew Bird

I was getting ready to be a threat,
I was getting set for my accidental suicide
the kind where no one dies, no one looks too surprised
and then you, then you realize that you’re riding on a para-success
of this heavy-handed metaphor,
and a feeling like you’ve been here before
‘cause you’ve been here before, and you’ve been here before
then a word washed ashore
then a word washed ashore, then a word washed ashore
sovay, sovay,
sovay, all along in the day

…perfect for fall.

Andrew Bird Documentary: Fever Year

What I would give to see this documentary….

Trailer for “Andrew Bird: Fever Year”—And Why You May Not Ever See The Film

andrewbirdsjaw:

Xan Aranda’s debut, “Andrew Bird: Fever Year,” was one of few world premieres at the New York Film Festival and it feels like a discovery. It isn’t a concert film and it certainly isn’t a personal documentary. However, it’s a music documentary that’s entertaining, lyrical and oddly revealing. It’s definitely worth seeing—if you can.

Bird is a musician with a devoted fanbase and he spent a year on the road—much of it, as the title suggests, with a fever. It’s a testament to his dedication that he never stopped; similarly, it’s a testament to his trust in Aranda, who had worked with the deeply private Bird on music videos, that he allowed this film to be made.

However, Bird owns the film. And at the NYFF, Aranda said he doesn’t want it to be shown beyond the festival circuit. No theatrical, no DVD, no VOD; just the festivals.

It’s possible, of course, that he could change his mind; Aranda says she’s been approached by interested domestic and international buyers. But for now, screenings will be limited to the festivals, which you can see track on the website.

Andrew Bird at Largo (again).

This past Sunday Brian and I drove to L.A to see Andrew Bird for the fifth time! It was our third time at Largo and it remains my favorite venue out of all the ones I’ve been to. There’s not much to say about this concert because it was amazing like all of his other concerts I’ve been to, and for those of you who read or keep up with this tumblr, I’m sure you already know how much I love Andrew Bird/talk about Andrew Bird/swoon over Andrew Bird, etc. Andrew played a lot of newer songs, not much from Noble Beast or anything previously made before that.

A lot of the songs I remembered hearing/seeing can be heard on Useless Creatures and Fingerlings 4, including I and I (which I believe is a version of Oh Baltimore with lyrics). He told us a story about how I and I was created. While he was on tour he would have a hard time sleeping and would make his insomnia worse by thinking about his eyes trying to see themselves, therefore straining them.

… I don’t think I’ve ever thought of my eyes trying to see themselves.

He also mentioned something about his next album being pretty much done, songs were recorded at his barn in Illinois and he’s putting everything together here. Excited! :)

Other than seeing Andrew Bird, the experience was made even more enjoyable because Zach Galifianakis performed some stand up comedy as an opening act! It was a nice surprise and Brian was super excited to see him. I had heard stories of Andrew and Zach being friends because Andrew rents out his house in Venice when he comes to stay in L.A.

Andrew also performed a few songs with Simone White. She is absolutely stunning and her voice is wonderful. They sound beautiful together and they sang one of my favorite covers, “Oh Sister” by Bob Dylan, together.

Always looking forward to seeing him again.
